Port Coquitlam, September 15, 2011: With the support of his family, Greg Moore confirmed today his decision to seek re-election as Mayor of Port Coquitlam . Over the past three years, Mayor Greg Moore has developed a strong team that delivers excellent governance and award-winning municipal services.
“When I took on the role of Mayor in 2008, I was committed to rebuilding PoCo Community Pride through service excellence and community engagement,” said Moore. “Looking back on the last three years I’m proud of the successes achieved and eager to continue my work to make our City a leader in local government services.”
Moore stands behind his record and highlights the many service enhancements achieved under his leadership:
• Renewed relationship with the Kwikwetlem First Nation, which led to the reopening of a previously closed section of the Traboulay PoCo Trail.
• Innovative waste disposal measures – such as curbside food scraps collection – which have allowed Port Coquitlam taxpayers to avoid the increasing garbage fees seen in other Lower Mainland municipalities.
• Development of Port Coquitlam’s first-ever Environmental Strategic Plan, which provides a framework for the City and the community to ensure the long-term protection of Port Coquitlam’s natural assets.
• Core service review and increased public access to the financial planning process to ensure taxpayers are getting value for their tax dollars and that service delivery continue to meet community needs and priorities.
• Investment in recreation facilities and services – such as the Community Sport Strategy, upgrades to Hyde Creek Recreation Centre, Athletic Field Strategy and the addition of the outdoor green gym at Gates Park – to ensure these important community assets continue to meet the needs of Port Coquitlam residents.
• Enhancing the City website, introducing new online services and using social media tools to provide Port Coquitlam residents accessible, two-way communication channels to receive City information and provide feedback.
In what is arguably a lengthy list of significant achievements since his election as Port Coquitlam’s Mayor, Moore points to the Coast Meridian Overpass as the one he is most proud of.
