Help Others & Get Some Exercise!

altWith plenty of snow in the forecast, Port Coquitlam residents will likely be spending a good deal of time with their snow shovels this winter.

In the interest of public safety, the City requires occupants of homes and businesses to keep the sidewalks next to their properties clear of snow and ice. But we also understand this can be a challenge for people who are elderly or disabled.

Lend a hand!

Sign up today for our new Snow Angels program, which teams up volunteers with eligible recipients to ensure that public sidewalks and private paths, stairs and driveways are clear of snow and safe for use this winter. Sign up individually or with a friend!

Benefits for Snow Angels:

•Provides an opportunity to help others and give back to the community.
•Snow shoveling is excellent exercise, burning more than 200 calories in 30 minutes.
•All volunteers get a City toque.
•Students may apply their Snow Angels hours toward the high school volunteer requirement.
How it works:

Snow Angels volunteers must:

•Provide their own shovel,
•Be at least 12 years old, and
•Complete the City’s volunteer application process, which includes a criminal background check.
•Proper shoveling techniques and preventative back injuries will be demonstrated at a volunteer orientation session.
•Each volunteer or team will be assigned one or two homes to look after over the 2010-2011 winter season. Locations are considered in the assignments.
