Environment

Planning our environmental future. Together.

Will your children have the quality of life you did? How will climate change affect your life? Is clean water important? How should we protect our green spaces?

The City of Port Coquitlam wants to be a leader in protecting the environment, and is now developing an Environmental Strategic Plan that will guide our decisions and our actions in achieving this goal.

Turn your lights out for the earth. This is an interesting campaign to raise the awareness of how important our environment is and how we take it for granted. Earth Hour started in Australia a couple years ago and has taken off around the world. It is a simple idea that has a large impact. The amount of electricity saved is minimal compared to the level of awareness raised.

Last year Erin and I had a few friends over, we cooked them dinner and played the game of LIFE, by candle light. Although the amount of energy we saved was not huge, it provided us a great opportunity to socialize and have a meaningful discussion about the environment and what changes we were going to make to our daily lives to save electricity.

I hope you will join Earth Hour this Saturday.
